The Consortium for Sustainable Urbanization (CSU) is pleased to announce the recipients of our 2025 CSU Global Undergraduate Scholarship Program, recognizing two exceptional students whose commitment to sustainable development, innovation, and community impact reflects the mission of the organization.

The CSU Global Undergraduate Scholarship Program supports emerging leaders pursuing studies and careers in architecture, urbanization, engineering, landscape architecture, and related disciplines that contribute to more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive communities. This year’s scholarship recipients represent Uganda and Kenya and have demonstrated outstanding dedication to addressing environmental and social challenges through education, leadership, and practical action.

Our scholarship winners for 2025 include:

Richard Boganza, Makerere University (Uganda)

Richard Boganza is an undergraduate student at Makerere University whose academic journey has been shaped by a passion for addressing the impacts of climate change in vulnerable communities. Inspired by the effects of droughts, floods, and changing weather patterns in his region, Richard has completed twelve climate change certifications through the United Nations Research Institute and is committed to advancing sustainable urban development. Through the scholarship, Richard plans to integrate climate change expertise with sustainable urban planning and resilient infrastructure design. His long-term goal is to create environmentally responsible solutions that strengthen communities while helping to combat climate change. His commitment to sustainability and community resilience reflects the values at the heart of CSU’s mission.

Melich Ngigi, Technical University of Kenya (Kenya)

Melich Ngigi is an architecture professional, entrepreneur, and graduate of the Technical University of Kenya, where he completed his diploma studies with distinction. He is the co-founder of Green Sustainable Shelter (GSS), a social enterprise focused on providing sustainable and affordable housing solutions for residents of informal settlements.

Through innovative approaches such as earthbag construction and plans to recycle plastic waste into building materials, Melich is working to transform housing conditions in underserved communities. His vision combines African architectural heritage with modern sustainable technologies to create healthier and more resilient living environments across Kenya and beyond. Through both his professional work and community leadership, he exemplifies the innovative thinking that CSU seeks to support through its scholarship programs.
