Sustainable Urbanization at the UN for Architects and other Design Professionals

This publication introduces the impressive work done by the United Nations in the area of sustainable urbanization to architects, planners, and design professionals. They are and will be playing a fundamental role in shaping the cities that will absorb the two and a half billion people moving into them in the next 30 years while giving them a chance to flourish.
On the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, its efforts to achieve sustainable urbanization and development over the years are told. The final products of the United Nations’ efforts in the area of human settlements and sustainable urbanization, the Sustainable Development Goal 11, and the New Urban Agenda, are also introduced.

Aliye P. Celik has worked in the UN in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, and at the UN-Habitat in New York office and in Nairobi. She has degrees from Middle East Technical University, Princeton University, and Istanbul Technical University. Celik received a Special Citations (1997) (2009) and an Award for Excellence (1970) from the American Institute of Architects, among others. She is the Past President of CSU and an adviser of United Cities and Local Governments and some United Nations Programmes. Nowadays, she is Chair of the CSU Board.
